With a new collection in the works, we caught up with Co-owner and Designer, Jessica of Jessica Bennett Bespoke to discuss her bridal style icons, her inspiration for new designs and how she creates a new collection.
Describe Jessica Bennett Bespoke in three words.
Modern, Minimal, Unique
What is your personal style and current must-have items
My personal style is very minimal really, I don't tend to do patterns or prints but I'm a sucker for beautiful fabrics. This is reflected in our Ready to Wear collections, colours and textures are so key to our look, but fussy fabrics don't feature much. My day to day look would be black jeans, crew neck tshirt and my fave must have is always a statement coat.
Who are your Bridal style icons.
Bianca Jagger is definitely a bridal icon for us, her YSL bridal suit was so chic and understated but with her styling was so effortlessly cool. More recently, I loved Solange Knowles' bridal look, the epitome of 'coolbride' and loved that her look was transformed from day to night, this is something our Brides are doing more and more now. Solange and the Knowles family very much set off the 'all-white' Bridal trend too which we've all been loving this past year or so.
What is your go-to source of inspiration?
Instagram is a constant stream of inspiration for us, it provides us with our daily snapshot of bridal from the UK to Australia and we love watching trends emerge and grow on that platform. Fashion and Interior trends also play a huge part in what's next for Bridal, the 'Millenial Pink' explosion has seen the majority of our bespoke Bridesmaids go for a varying shade of pink of the past 2 wedding seasons and is still set to be really popular for next summer.
Who is the Jessica Bennett Bespoke woman?
A trend conscious Bride, looking for something unique to them that will truly refelct their personal style. They want to feel the best version they possibly can of themselves, not of the Bride they're expected to be. Our JBBrides are both stylish & sophisticated and have a true appreciation for quality, not only of fabrics but also of the overall service & experience.
Where is your dream destination?
After a recent trip there it has to be Positano on the Amalfi Coast, Italy. The most photogenic destination I've ever been and it just oozes character, charm and romance.
Can you describe the process of designing a new collection?
In the year -18 months before a new collection we gather our inspiration from all over. We'll then take the time to go over all of our inspo pieces and can begin to spot trends and features that have taken our eye over the last few months. We then begin a toiling process whereby we make samples up of our designs and perfect design aspects, once that is all perfect we'll make final collection pieces. We then pull a fabulous team together for an editorial styled shoot to showcase the new collection.
What is your favourite part of the job?
My favourite part of the job has to be working on new collections and seeing ideas go from sketches and fabric swatches in to new designs. And when one is complete and you know its going to be a hit with our clients, that is really exciting. For our bespoke Brides I love our initial consultations where we get to know our Brides and their wishes for their wedding day and bridal look. Bouncing ideas around together is any creatives dream, and theres nothing better for us than when a Bride really wants something 'bespoke' in the truest sense of the word.
What does the future hold for Jessica Bennett Bespoke?
There is an exciting expansion in the pipeline for Jessica Bennett Bespoke, with a new city center studio for 2018. Our Bridal pieces are continuing to attract Brides from all over the UK and we can't wait to just continue to build onthat. We also have a fabulous new accessories designer that we will be stocking soon and new collections to launch over the next 2/3 months. A very busy and exciting time ahead.
